Dr. Owens Medical Director of Palliative Care Services
The new Palliative Care Services program at IBMC serves as a strong support for those dealing with illness requiring extra effort in control of pain and other difficult-to-treat symptoms. Dr. Owens will interact closely with the medical and paramedical staff in intensive care, pulmonology, cardiovascular diseases, nephrology, and other medical specialities. He will also guide the hospitalist service in incorporating palliative principles for all patients, whether or not they will eventually become hospice-eligible.
Dr. Owens trained extensively in hospice and palliative care as part of his geriatric medicine fellowship at Mayo Clinic and has been a hospice medical director since 1995. INTEGRIS has once again recognized Dr. Owens' leadership and negotiating abilities with this appointment and continues to highlight the presence of Great Plains Family Medicine within the larger system.
