The Great Goose Caper
...the helping instincts of a medical office staff kick in! Several of our staff members spent weeks stalking an injured goose. We'll call him Lucky. (We'll also assume Lucky is a "he.") One of Lucky's ankles somehow became wrapped in fishing line. It was just tight enough to cause the joint to swell. And to swell and swell, resulting in a painful condition that would eventually amputate Lucky's foot. Hence the goose hunt. One day last week a helpful patient out feeding the birds joined in the chase and was able to grab Lucky. Wrapped in a blanket and shoved in a box, Lucky was wisked away to an impromptu goose surgery center a.k.a. Great Plains office. Medical staff quickly cut the line and confirmed that Lucky still had blood circulating below the ankle. (Do geese have ankles?) Lucky was released to his flock and made straight for the lake. He is seen most days, still limping but out of immediate danger. Now, if we could just catch that white duck with the landscaping netting caught on its foot...
