Great Plains Family Medicine Residency Program - Faculty and Staff


Family Physician

Dr. Palmer earned his degree at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and trained at the OU Family Medicine Residency Program where he was Chief Resident. He then completed a fellowship in primary care sports medicine. He is a team physician for a local high school and provides some coverage for the minor league sports teams in the metro area. Dr. Palmer is Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University Of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. He holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Sports Medicine. In 2008, Dr. Palmer joined the Army Reserve Medical Corps.

"I love Family Medicine and I love teaching it to younger doctors. The Great Plains Residency Program has allowed me to grow as a physician and a person while I develop new skills and pursue interests and passions. Being around people trying to learn is both challenging and invigorating - it helps keep me sharp."

Special Interests: Sports Medicine, obstetrics, asthma management and diabetes care; looking forward to remaining active in the Oklahoma Academy of Family Physicians

Career Highlights: Chief of the Department of Family Medicine at Deaconess Hospital; President of the OAFP, holds a similar office for the local Frontier District of the AAFP; advisor/faculty member for the OU Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship; deployed to Afghanistan in 2010

Hobbies: Enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, as well as being involved in his church; runs and plays basketball for fitness; an avid reader and enjoys working puzzles (crossword and sudoku)
