Great Plains Family Medicine Residency Program - Faculty and Staff

Behaviorist

Ms. Bloomgarden is currently in private practice in south Oklahoma City and also works 24-hours per week in the Great Plains Family Medicine Residency Program.

She received her graduate training in social work from the University of Chicago and Indiana University, and then practiced in a variety of direct service and supervisory positions in community mental health for 13 years.   From 1987 to 1992, she was a faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Oklahoma, where she focused on self-psychology, as well as marital, family and group therapies.

"Teaching at Great Plains is rewarding for a number of reasons, including the collegial and family atmosphere created between staff, residents and faculty.  I enjoy my interactions with residents; I appreciate their openness and willingness to entertain ideas which differ from the typical biomedical curriculum."

Special Interests: Self-psychology, neuro-psychiatry and the importance of the doctor/patient relationship in the healing process.

Career Highlights: Board certified clinical social worker, member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers and the National Association of Social Workers.

Hobbies: Gardening, knitting and family-oriented activities.

Favorite Quote:  "The force that through the green fuse drives the flower." - Dylan Thomas
