In honor of Veteran's Day, Great Plains would like to recognize the contributions of our own who are serving or have served in the military.

Great Plains Family Medicine Residency Program - Faculty and Staff


Associate Director & Family Physician

Dr. Owens earned his medical degree from the University of Panama' and trained at the University of Oklahoma Family Medicine Residency Program where he was Chief Resident.

He completed a fellowship in geriatric medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine at the Mayo Clinic, and was on the full-time faculty at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center from 1993 - 1995, where he was distinguished with the Teacher of the Year Award.

Dr. Owens is a Clinical Professor in the Departments of Family and Preventive Medicine, Geriatric Medicine and Internal Medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.  He is also a Clinical Instructor at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine.  He has been the Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at Integris Baptist Medical Center since 1999.  Dr. Owens holds Certificates of Added Qualifications in Geriatrics, Adolescent Medicine, Sports Medicine, and Hospice and Palliative Care.  He is a Certified Medical Director in Long Term Care.

Career Highlights:  The 2007-2008 President of the Oklahoma Academy of Family Physicians; Board member of Integris Mental Health and the Oklahoma County Medical Society and the 2006-2008 President of the Oklahoma City Clinical Society

Hobbies: Reading, travel, skiing, tennis, music, and attending his children's sports, music, and drama activities; enjoys reading about current events, history, trivia, etymology, and politics
